about jo 📚
I am born and raised in the San Francisco bay area. As a child of immigrants, I worked two jobs since I was fifteen and was the first person on either side of my family to graduate from college — and after that, I went to law school. In late 2016, I began to help communities with safety from sexual misconduct, and to work directly with survivors as an advocate. In March 2025, I began to write a intersectional feminist newsletter that was built on my self-study of feminist theory and my years of activism and advocacy in stopping rape. Less than eight months later, that newsletter was a Substack bestseller.

The newsletter 📚
The idea behind my is to help you think & educate you about women, our lived realities, ending gender-based oppression and improving material conditions for women with a special focus on stopping rape and questioning the bias toward heteronormative, Western white women within feminism — all things I believe will make the world a better, more just place for all.
I think of myself as someone writing about ending oppression of all kinds; the reason I chose feminism is because of my decade-long background in survivor advocacy.
I write long-form essays on feminist theory and guidance on stopping rape. The ideas I write about are through the lens of intersectionality and inclusion. The theories and writers I draw from are often radical, but I try to offer them up in ways that are connected to the current zeitgeist, and also in plainer, more objective language than the original theorists and researchers I cite in each essay. Second wave feminism was too often myopic and not inclusive; third wave feminism too often focuses on individual and private rather than addressing addressing or fighting back against systemic oppression. I attempt to address these inadequacies, and create a feminism that takes the best of the past theorists and draws a roadmap for feminists to the future.
